Serving as a Workshop Assistant (formerly “intern”) at the Paddy Crean Workshop is an exceptional opportunity to connect with movement professionals from around the globe, form relationships that transcend the bounds of the workshop, garner experience teaching and assisting a variety of instructors at an acclaimed international workshop, and continue your own movement education.

Duties

Below you’ll find the most common responsibilities assigned to Workshop Assistants: 
  • Support the smooth operation of the workshop
  • Weapon and equipment transportation and armory assistance 
  • Assist a variety of instructors with diverse backgrounds in classes of all levels 
  • Partner students in classes with an uneven number of students.
  • Admin duties as assigned including assisting with class sign ups
  • Teach at least 1 class as a lead instructor.

Qualifications

We request you meet the following qualifications: 
  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Must be willing and able to assist in any weapon/style from beginner to advanced. Advanced Level certificate or its equivalent training is recommended but not required
  • Be available for the entirety of the workshop Jan 3 - 9 
  • Be able to carry up to 50 lbs (bag o' long swords)
  • Be eager to continue the Paddy Crean Legacy. We are looking for people who will carry on the mantle once we are gone

Workshop Assistant applications for the 2024 Workshop are now closed.

In Return

  • The Workshop Assistants will receive a $500 discount on the total Workshop Costs (cost per participant determined by selected accommodation)
  • All Workshop Assistants will gain the opportunity to assist a variety of instructors
    • This is a great way to have one-on-one interaction with instructors from around the world, forming relationships that exceed the boundaries of our workshop.
  • When not assisting, teaching, or aiding in the smooth operation of the workshop, Workshop Assistants are free to partake of any classes they choose.
  • First Light Fights - each day all WA and staff will take a group class with one of the workshop instructors for an accelerated lesson in their respective fields.
  • Opportunity to teach at the international level in a class of your own.
  • All Workshop Assistants will receive a workshop t-shirt! Woo hoo!!
